Dowling Music

Dowling Music Entrance When the current Steinway Hall was built in 1925, the idea was to not just create a magnificent retail showroom befitting of the Steinway name, but to create a center of culture, art, and music in Manhattan. The Steinway Hall building housed music labels, recording studios, and many other music-related businesses – and was truly a hub for all things musical on 57th Street. With the addition of new rehearsal rooms and the grand opening of Dowling Music, Steinway Hall is in many ways returning to its original purpose of being a center not just for the sale of Steinway pianos, but a destination for anyone who has a love of music.

Steinway Hall welcomes Dowling Music, your comprehensive source for printed sheet music, gifts, and musical accessories created by musicians for musicians.

Dowling Music is co-owned by Steinway Artist Richard Dowling and James Li. Richard Dowling is a classical concert pianist, recording artist and sheet music editor for major publishers. He appears regularly across the United States in solo recitals and concerts with orchestras. Career highlights include a sold-out New York orchestral debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, a solo recital at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in New York, and a special award from the National Federation of Music Clubs recognizing his outstanding performances of American music. Jim is from New York and brings to Dowling Music over 20 years of experience in the investment banking business including firms such as JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch and Salomon Smith Barney, having advised companies large and small on mergers & acquisitions and raising debt and equity capital.
